Simple 3-Step Fix to Instantly Look Better on Camera – For Every Facilitator

Hey #FaciliFam, ever feel like your webcam is trying to frame you out of your own session? πŸ‘€

This week: a 3-step fix to help you look sharp – even with just a laptop and coffee table.

No fancy gear. No studio. Just a few clever tweaks to help you show up like a pro.

We’ll cover how to sit, place your camera, and frame yourself using the Rule of Thirds.

πŸͺ‘ Step 1: Sit Naturally

Sit how you normally do in your online sessions.

At your desk? Kitchen table? Standing? That’s your starting point.

Don’t pose for the camera – we’ll adjust the setup to fit you.

πŸ‘‰ Notice your posture – leaning back, sitting upright, or shifting around?

Perfect. That’s what we’ll work with – not against.

Everything else adjusts around it.

πŸŽ₯ Step 2: Move the Camera (Not You)

Now that you’re settled – adjust the cam to fit your setup.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» Laptop Cam

βœ”οΈ Raise your laptop (use an adjustable stand or a few books πŸ“š) so the camera sits at eye level

➑️ I use one of these stands – nothing fancy, just budget-friendly and does the job.

πŸ’‘ #FaciliHack: Use a wireless keyboard and mouse – no more T-Rex arms.

πŸ“· USB Webcam

βœ”οΈ Mount your webcam just above eye level

βœ”οΈ Tilt it slightly downward so you're looking up a little

βœ”οΈ Use a clip, tripod, or desk mount – whatever fits your setup

➑️ Personally, I use one of these desk mounts for my camera.

So even if I move my monitor or bump the desk, the angle stays locked in.

πŸ’‘ #FaciliHack: External webcams give you more flexibility and better angles.
Even an affordable one will outperform your built-in laptop cam.

πŸ“ Step 3: Frame It Right

Use this classic trick from film to look natural, confident, and well-positioned.

What’s the Rule of Thirds?

Imagine your screen split into a 3Γ—3 grid – like Tic Tac Toe.

It helps place your face where it feels most balanced and natural on screen.

Frame Like a Pro

βœ”οΈ Eyes on the top third line

βœ”οΈ A hand-width of space above your head

βœ”οΈ Frame from the top of your head to mid-chest

βœ”οΈ Show your shoulders – and your hands, if possible

πŸ’‘ #FaciliHack: Showing your hands helps you appear more open and relatable on camera.

So... how do you actually line things up like that?

You can eyeball it, sure. Or use free tools that make it fast and foolproof.

πŸ› οΈ Use These Tools

πŸŽ›οΈ LogiTune (Free App)

If you’re using a USB cam, chances are it’s a Logitech.

But even if it’s not – LogiTune works with many webcam brands.

πŸ’‘ #FaciliHack: Some webcams come with their own control apps – like Camera Hub for Elgato cameras. Check your model – you might already have the tools!

βœ”οΈ Free for Windows & Mac

βœ”οΈ Works with most USB webcams

βœ”οΈ Ideal for quick eye-line and headroom fixes

How to Frame Yourself with LogiTune

βœ”οΈ Open the app and select your webcam

βœ”οΈ Enable the grid overlay in the settings

βœ”οΈ Align your eyes with the top third line

βœ”οΈ Leave a bit of headroom and frame to mid-chest

OBS Studio / Ecamm Live

If you're using tools like OBS Studio or Ecamm Live, you get even more control over how you appear on screen. This works with both built-in and external USB webcams.

Use my Rule of Thirds overlay to get pro-level framing in seconds.

βœ”οΈ Add the PNG overlay to your scene

βœ”οΈ Lock it in place

βœ”οΈ Align your camera feed using the grid

βœ”οΈ Hide the overlay – done!

Take 3 screenshots – relaxed, adjusted, and polished.

πŸ‘‰ Which one feels most like 'you'? That’s your golden frame.

πŸ‘‹ Hey #FaciliFam, The Virtual Experience Masterclass kicks off in just a few days - and if your sessions still feel more stressful than smooth, this is for you. We start Monday, June 30 There's always a smarter, more engaging way to run virtual sessions - and you probably feel that too. Your content is solid. You've got the experience. And your sessions already work. But maybe they could flow a little smoother. Feel more polished. Leave a stronger impression. That's exactly why I created the...

Raise your hand if you've ever nailed a session ... but totally forgot to ask for feedback because ... well ... life. πŸ€·πŸ½β™‚οΈ You deliver value - but what really drives momentum for your business? Clients sharing the results you helped them create. That’s social proof - and it sells better than any slide. The problem? We forget. We delay. We overthink. Last week, I briefly mentioned one of my go-to tools: Senja - the platform that makes collecting testimonials fun, fast, and frictionless. What...

Hey #Facilifam, many of you run online sessions every week. So when a tool comes along that makes them smoother, faster, and way less stressful - I pay attention.
